History & Story
Shamwari Private Game Reserve is the embodiment of how a bold ambitious conservation project has turned back the clock, restoring a piece of Africa’s natural heritage to what it once was. In 1992 elephant, white rhino and hippo were re-introduced. Black rhino and buffalo followed in 1993/4, with cheetah, lion and brown hyena brought back in 2000. That’s when Shamwari become the first big 5 game reserve in the Eastern Cape.

Sindile was built to open in December 2019, but because of Covid we only opened the lodge in September 2021.

Main Strengths, Special Touch
Sindile, Shamwari’s new luxury tented camp is a secluded, luxury getaway set deep in the African veld. The nine luxury free-standing tents are elevated above the surrounding bush, allowing uninhibited views, unsullied by any other man-made structures or light pollution.

Named for the matriarch of Shamwari’s leopards, the camp mimics a solitary leopard’s sanctuary, blending with the surrounding bush while providing excellent vantages over the Bushman’s River and surrounding plains.
