History & Story
The Cellars Building In 1991, Liz McGrath purchased what was then the sole Cellars building with the intention of restoring its historical beauty and uplifting what was then a country guesthouse. McGrath was known at the time for her success in developing the The Plettenberg, and the appeal of modernizing the Cellars, yet retaining its history, was an opportunity she could not turn down. Until then, The Hohenort Hotel had been run under separate ownership on the property adjacent to the Cellars. In February 1993, McGrath took over the property and began an extensive renovation that saw the hotel reopen its doors in November of the same year. The two properties and their surrounding nine acres of land were united once more.

• The Conservatory Restaurant –Designed to live up to its name, The Conservatory Restaurant is set around a glass atrium as focal point and has been transformed into a relaxed, indoor oasis with floor-to-ceiling views linking tranquil dining areas with nature. The restaurant leads to the dining terrace with a curved pergola that is framed by the lush gardens, and views of Table Mountain in the distance. The new summer menu features a style of lighter cuisine, using local fresh seasonal produce, and includes many of the iconic dishes that The Cellars-Hohenort is known for. Armed with solid experience and youthful passion, Head Chef Daniel Blignaut is supported at The Cellars-Hohenort Hotel & Spa by Group Executive Chef of The Liz McGrath Collection, Tronette Dippenaar, to offer a contemporary, world-class culinary experience presented with warm South African hospitality and service.
