The Silo Hotel
History & Story
The Silo Hotel was built in the grain elevator portion of the historic grain silo complex. The hotel occupies six floors above Zeitz MOCAA (Museum of Contemporary Art Africa) in the V&A Waterfront of Cape Town. Zeitz MOCAA houses Africa’s largest collection of contemporary African art in the world. The exterior of the building was designed by Thomas Heatherwick, Founder and Principal of the London-based Heatherwick Studio. The building retained much of its industrial features from when it was built in 1921 and with the integrate, floor to ceiling, pillowed glass windows that were added to the façade as well as Liz Biden’s colourful interiors, the hotel has become a masterpiece in architecture and design.
