History & Story
Back in 2013 Miavana by Time + Tide was started by the Peyre and wider Dalais family. The development saw the rehabilitation of the land and construction work which took more than 4 years. Nurseries were established, invasive non-endemic trees were removed and more than 100 000 endemic plants and trees were planted along with other rehabilitation and restoration efforts. Miavana’s design and construction philosophy embodied the Time + Tide values and has brought the Time + Tide vision to life.
Venturing to the most wild and remote parts of the Earth, Time + Tide’s family-owned properties are pioneers in both exclusive safaris and expeditions in Zambia, and exclusive island adventures in Madagascar on Miavana by Time + Tide. Across land and sea, we have a legacy in responsible tourism and offer a modern-day explorer the luxury of space and the chance to feel fully alive. Our team take extraordinary care in sharing our deep appreciation for the land, wildlife and culture.
Designed by the award-winning Silvio Rech and Lesley Carstens, Miavana opened in May 2017. Beautifully conceptualised to celebrate the island setting, Miavana uses local, hand- cut stone, Malagasy wood and hues of turquoise that reflect the shimmering Indian Ocean.
Miavana by Time + Tide is located on Nosy Ankao, the largest island in a secluded archipelago off the northeastern cost of Madagascar.
Miavana offers world class luxury in a land of rare wildlife and extraordinary landscapes. With their range of activities spanning sea, land and air, it is the ultimate destination for modern day explorers.
The Miavana villas are perfectly designed for total relaxation, with a private pool, spacious veranda overlooking the sea and direct beach access for ocean dips. Unwind with one of their in-villas spa treatments that use African botanicals, including massages, facials, body treatments, manicures and pedicures.
At the Activities Centre, you will find our well-stocked gym, featuring a range of cardio machines, free weights and yoga mats – all directly overlooking the ocean.
Additionally, there is also a large infinity pool in the main village overlooking the ocean and the mountains beyond.
Miavana does not offer a space specifically set aside for corporate events, but the spacious villas/main areas and total resort capacity of 44 guests mean that they can work with guests to meet their needs for corporate retreats. Please note that there is limited wifi and phone signal on the island.
Unique activities offered at Miavana include scenic helicopter flights, scuba diving on reefs virtually unseen by human eyes (many bucketlist species, such as manta rays), world class fishing (Nov to April – deep sea, jigging, trolling, popping + fly-fishing on reef flats), beach picnics on one of the island’s secluded coves, wind and kite-surfing (May to Nov), a front row seat to the humpback breeding season – expect plenty of breaching (Aug to Oct), chances to visit a seasonal tern colony, our signature Sleepout Under the Stars on a nearby, uninhabited island (coming soon), and chances to see some of the world’s rarest animals in the many nature reserves, such as the black lemur and or Brookesia chameleon.
