TIME + TIDE MIAVANA
History & Story
Discovered 30 years ago by our partner Jean Christophe, an entrepreneur who believed in conserving the area, Nosy Ankao is the largest island in a secluded archipelago. With a desire to bring long-term conservation and community development to the area, Time + Tide Miavana was born. The resort was designed to have minimal impact on the ecosystem and its native inhabitants. All invasive plants from the 360 hectare island by hand and replanting over 120,000 native plants cultivated from clippings by Island Manager Greg Wepener and his team. Throughout the development and construction, the local community were deeply involved, being consulted to ensure local customs were respected, and comprising the majority of the building teams. After a challenging but rewarding 4.5 years, Time + Tide Miavana welcomed its first guests in May 2017.
Date Renewal
Designed by the award-winning Silvio Rech and Lesley Carstens, Time + Tide Miavana opened in May 2017. Beautifully conceptualised to celebrate the island setting, Time + Tide Miavana uses local, hand-cut stone, Malagasy wood and hues of turquoise that reflect the shimmering Indian Ocean.
