History & Story
In previous, this hotel was well known as “Pansea” and it was opened in 1991 after almost two years of extensive renovation to give the old “Mittapab Friendship Hotel”. From 1997 to 1999, the hotel was renovated again to reduce number of room with the aim of increasing room size and its splendor to become one of the most charming hotels in Luang Prabang, Laos.
Then the management of Orient-Express Hotels and Pansea group worked together since 2004 and after that the management of Orient-Express acquired the Pansea group of hotels in South East Asia including with effect from 01st July 2006. Then the name of the hotel was changed as “La Residence Phou Vao”. The name Orient-Express was renamed to Belmond on 10th March 2014; therefore, hotel name becomes “Belmond La Residence Phou Vao”.
