History & Story
A flagship hotel located in the heart of Kyoto – right opposite Nijo-jo Castle across Horikawa-dori – this hotel will be directly managed by the Mitsui Group. Measuring over 7,000m², this was the location of the Kyoto home of the Kitake, the executive branch of the Mitsui family – a home the family maintained for over 250 years. The architectural remnants of the site are being put to good use, incorporated into the design of the entranceway and centerpiece garden of the new hotel. Guests will experience Kyoto’s rich traditions and spirituality – the property combines the storied history of the old capital coupled with a dynamic, progressive design. Featuring 161 guest rooms with a mean floorspace of over 50m², including a Presidential Suite measuring 213m², as well as a SPA facility of some 1,000m², guests can relax and enjoy the spacious surroundings. The elegant Japanese garden is visible from the restaurant area, where the culinary team are dedicated to making the most of the freshest ingredients from all over Japan.

Thermal Spring with Natural hot spring Onsen sourced onsite.
One of the great pleasures of a visit to Kyoto is experiencing an onsen thermal spring, and here you can immerse yourself in these healing baths, in a calming environment punctuated by the sound of running water. Let the naturalspring water soak away all of your stresses and strains, so you can attain complete relaxation. Bathers are asked to use swimwear when bathing at the Thermal Spring.
Location
HOTEL THE MITSUI KYOTO is located in the centre of Kyoto city. Easy access to most of the landmarks of Kyoto and many attractions of the downtown within walking distance.
Looking from Kyoto Station, Higashi Hongan-ji Temple and Nishi Hongan-ji Temple (a World Heritage site) can be seen lined up to the north of Kyoto Tower. The popular Kyoto Aquarium can be found in Umekoji Park nearby. The area around Karasuma and Kawara-machi is a busy shopping district, visited by many tourists, which includes Nishiki Ichiba market—often called “Kyoto’s kitchen”.
The “Go” board-like layout of the streets and their names are quite characteristic of Kyoto. A great many facilities, scenic spots, and historic sites can be found around Karasuma-dori Street, which stretches directly north from Kyoto Station. From historical sites such as The Museum of Kyoto, Honno-ji Temple, the massive Kyoto Gyoen National Garden, and Shokoku-ji Temple (one of the five most important Rinzai temples of Kyoto) to unique attractions such as the Kyoto International Manga Museum, this area has something for everyone.
Nijo Castle (a World Heritage site), Kitanotenmangu Shrine, and other historical buildings can also be found to the west. The World Heritage site Shimogamo Shrine can be found where the Kamo-gawa and Takano-gawa rivers meet, and it holds the Aoi Festival (one of Kyoto’s three famous festivals) along with Kamowake-ikazuchi Shrine, another World Heritage site. Nearby Kitaoji-dori Street is an urban area with a lot of traffic, and a mountainous region stretches out immediately to the north.
