Development Strategy
The hotel is the original property in KK Collection and as such is our flagship hotel. We have two other hotels in the group – KK Beach and The Villa Bentota – and there are no plans to expand further

History and Story
George Cooper purchased this nine-acre property in 1999 while retracing his family’s history as rubber planters in Sri Lanka. Originally intended as a holiday home, George moved to Sri Lanka full-time in February 2006, officially opening Kahanda Kanda as a five-room boutique hotel in November of that year. Since the end of the civil war in 2009, the estate has expanded to 14 acres of vibrant tea bushes. As of 2026, the property features 17 luxury villas, 13 of which include private plunge pools, and has earned a prestigious reputation with a high volume of repeat guests.
Date Renovation
The entire hotel is repainted annually. This year we are installing indoor showers in the two Plantation Suites in addition to the outdoor showers, resurfacing the two drive ways.
