The Caochang Hutong surrounding and encompassing the hotel is an important historical and cultural district dating back six centuries. One of the best-preserved hutong areas in Beijing, the traditional residential model of quadrangle courtyards continues, retaining the unique, gentle culture and history of everyday Beijing life.
The hotel’s 42 courtyard houses throughout the hutong include the former residences of artistic and commercial luminaries. Famous artists from the world of Peking Opera such as Li Hongchun, film director Mr. Guo Baochang and the family behind the Tong Ren Tang traditional Chinese medicine brand all once lived in them as elegant and expansive private residences.
The courtyard houses seamlessly blend into local hutong life and co-exist with residences and businesses. An increasing number of elegant boutiques celebrate Chinese and international designers.
