The St. Regis Bora Bora Resort
History & Story
Fittingly, The St. Regis’ first hotel opened its doors in New York City in 1904, a time in America’s history known as the Gilded Age, an era of unprecedented industrial growth, opulence and extraordinary wealth. From the Gilded Age came the inspiration for the impeccable service, gracious elegance, timeless design and sense of glamour The St. Regis is still known for today.
Wealthy business magnate, inventor and entrepreneur, John Jacob Astor IV, created The St. Regis New York as a place where he could entertain the city’s luminaries and pursue his passion for fine living. The hotel boasted cutting-edge technology for its time, telephones in every room, and exceptional luxury standards. It was not long before The St. Regis New York was lauded by The New York Times as “the finest hotel in America”.
Astor perished when the Titanic sank in 1912 so he would not live to see the impact of his vision. Nevertheless, The St. Regis continued to thrive after his death and grew to become one of the world’s leading luxury hospitality brands with more than 40 hotels and resorts worldwide. Today, The St. Regis continues to uphold the ‘Live Exquisite’ characteristics instilled by Astor so long ago – exquisite experiences, exclusive luxury hospitality of the highest standard, and a celebration of the art of fine living.
