Hotel Otavalo
History & Story
True to the concept of the brand, our motivation is to find and restore emblematic heritage buildings.
1930: Original construction by Mr. Elias Endara inspired by traditional Spanish colonial architecture
1940s: One of the first rental establishments existent, inhabited by native Otavaleñian families
1952: VOZ DE LOS LAGOS, a radio station broadcasts from the second floor
1955: Dr. Marcelo Endara Miño bought the building from his father and started to operate it as Hotel Otavalo
1960-90s: Hotel Otavalo gained a national and international reputation for providing quality hospitality services
1998: Hotel Otavalo was sold to Mr. Ivan Endara Bolaños
2014: Art Hotels Ecuador purchased Hotel Otavalo and began reconstruction
2019: Hotel Otavalo is re-inaugurated as the only luxury boutique hotel in the north of the country

Location
Hotel Otavalo is the crown jewel of the proudly indigenous city of “Otavalos”, the indigenous peoples both are named after. Confident of their roots, they are known to be voyagers, sources of cultural exchange and exposure to the world; besides being the kindest people in the country.

• The hotel used to be a Radio Station.
• It is one of 4 buildings to survive a devastating earthquake in 1986, and which were used to build the city grid afterwards.
• A stream called Capacabana used to run behind the hotel in what is now Parque Corazón de Manzana.
• In pre-Hispanic times, in this exact site and neighbourhood, traders from the highlands of Perú brought their devotion to the Spanish-influenced virgin of Copacabana,
• With whose name the ravine that existed behind this hotel was baptized.

Especially for families, our Deluxe Connecting accommodations offer a Queen size bed, and are connected to a Superior Twin or King room. Handicap Accessible rooms are available in the Superior Category. Premium rooms provide more space, and a balcony based on availability. Our Luxury Suites offer your choice of bed size and are complete with a private balcony and two person Jacuzzi or soak tub.

The name translates to “come celebrate with us” in our native language, Quichua.
