History & Story
Set on the Rilán Peninsula on the coast of Chiloé Island in the south of Chile, Tierra Chiloé’s sustainable architecture reflects traditional local houses built on stilts over the water. The bold design highlights the ever changing views of nearby islands and the distant mountains on the mainland.
With a warm atmosphere and a friendly team of staff, the hotel invites guests to step back in time and discover a slower pace of life. Interiors are cosy and inviting with hand crafted furniture and textiles made by local artisans.
Visiting the island of Chiloé is returning to a simpler way of living. Islanders live off the land and pass down myths and legends from generation to generation – superstitions abound. Food is farm fresh, with seasonal produce and the catch of the day. Chilean wines complement dishes and local specialities.
Activities include walks, hikes, horseback rides and sailing on our private vessel, the Williche, complete with kayaks and bicycles on board. Guests can discover remote islands, meet the local people and explore the historic Jesuit wooden churches, which are World Heritage Sites.
In the evening, gather around the cosy fireplaces to swap stories and watch the sun set over the distant hills.
With only 12 rooms originally, 12 more are being constructed throughout 2016-17 and plans include a full spa and heated outdoor pool. Services are all inclusive and the focus is on a personalized experience including adventure and discovery of this fascinating destination.
Date added extensions
Building started in June 2016 of 12 additional rooms and full spa including heated outdoor pool. The hotel will remain open while construction takes place and the guest experience will be affected as little as possible. Closed for winter 2017, it will re-open in October 2017 with 24 rooms and full spa facilities.
