History & Story
The Velona Castle, located on a hill overlooking the Val d’Orcia, a Unesco World Heritage Site (2004), is a restored castle dating back to the 10th / 11th century. Located 1 h45 minutes from Florence and just 8 km from Montalcino, the Castle dominates the Val D’Orcia, with its typical landscape of olive trees and vineyards, which produce the famous Brunello di Montalcino.
Date Renovation/Restoration
Acquired in 1997, under the guidance of architect Alberto Durante, who specializes in historic buildings, given his extensive experience in consulting the Vatican Museums, the Velona Castle was brought back to ancient splendour with 26 rooms and suites.
Date Added Extension
In 2004, it was possible to obtain permits for the construction of a Spa Centre attached to the Velona Castle, in addition to the expansion of the Hotel itself, which began in 2008 and continued until 2011 with the following additional elements: 1)19 additional Suites, for a total of 46 rooms 4 Swimming Pools; 2) a 1500 m2 SPA, a second Restaurant 3) a Meeting Centre for up to 70 pax
Main Strengths, Special Touch
The Castle has a total of 16 rooms and 29 suites and have been designed according to two different concepts: Castle Rooms and Contemporary rooms. The Resort counts 3 restaurants, 2 of which are open for dinner with a Gourmet Menu at the Brunello Restaurant and traditional Italian Cuisine at Settimo Senso, and the Dolce Vita Pool Restaurant, located outside the pool area is open only for lunch. The OLISPA is an oasis of pure relaxation that extends over an area of 1500.
