Hotel General Manager
Mr Philippe Frutiger
“Hospitality has become a part of my life, and it never gets boring”. Philippe Frutiger – co-CEO of the Swiss group Giardino Hotels along with his wife Daniela – was never short on conviction when it came to his career. After an initial training as a cook, he attended the hotel management school in Thun and started as an intern at Giardino Ascona, at that time under the lead of the legendary hotelier Hans Leu. Since the start of 2010, Philippe Frutiger has shared the role of CEO of the Giardino Group with Daniela Frutiger. Before that, Philippe, had already held the position of General Manager and Delegate of the Board of Directors of the Giardino Ascona hotel since the end of 2006.
Hotel Positioning
5 Star Superior Luxury, Design Hotel
Development strategy
Giardino Mountain is part of a small, fine collection of 5 stars hotels in Switzerland. The hotels are niche products for people who look for relaxation and laid-back luxury.
Giardino Ascona
History & Story
The hotel has been opened in 2011 as the mountain retreat of Giardino Hotels. Before it used to be a boarding school for girls. The building reflects the story of the place Champfèr with its architecture and charme. Today, the Giardino Mountain is known as one of Europe’s most beautiful mountain hotels with contemporary style. The mountain retreat combines casual luxury and Alpine lifestyle. It is a place where the old is exalted by the new. The fireplace in the lounge, for example, resembles one that you might expect to find in a farmhouse. Directly next door, the modern bar welcomes guests with its soft lighting. Rough-plastered stone walls and exquisite wooden panels provide a natural and warm contrast.
