The company is led by Johannes Kohler and Matthias Kohler, while the retreat is operationally managed by Carmen Kohler, part of the family business since 1989 and the initiator behind Engel Ayurpura.

History & Story
The Kohler family has been welcoming guests in South Tyrol since 1862. Engel Ayurpura, opened in 2023, is the family’s newest hotel and the result of a deeply personal vision by Carmen Kohler, who has been part of the family business since 1989. Created as an adults-only Ayurveda retreat in the Dolomites, it brings together authentic Ayurvedic medicine, therapeutic treatments, mindful nutrition, yoga, silence and alpine nature. The retreat reflects the Engel philosophy of lightness: a calm, refined and deeply personal place for regeneration, inner balance and a return to one’s natural rhythm.

In December 2024, the new Pura Vista room category was added, offering floor-to-ceiling glass windows and panoramic Dolomites views.

Location
Engel Ayurpura is located in Nova Levante / Welschnofen, a quiet mountain village of around 2,000 inhabitants in South Tyrol, at the gateway to the Dolomites. Surrounded by forests and views of the Latemar and Catinaccio / Rosengarten peaks, the retreat offers a peaceful alpine setting for regeneration and nature, just around 20 minutes from Bolzano and 25 minutes from Bolzano Airport by car.

Engel Ayurpura is connected to Engel gourmet&spa by a 100-metre underground corridor used only by the team. It discreetly links two worlds of the Engel philosophy: family hospitality and tradition on one side, and adults-only Ayurvedic regeneration on the other. This makes the overall Engel destination particularly interesting for multi-generational travel, where different generations can enjoy distinct experiences within one family-owned hospitality world.
Children’s Corner
Engel Ayurpura welcomes guests from the age of 14 and is designed as an adults-only Ayurveda retreat. There is no children’s corner or children’s programme, allowing the atmosphere to remain calm, quiet and fully dedicated to regeneration. Families travelling with younger children can stay at Engel gourmet&spa, the family-friendly hotel within the Engel destination.

The restaurant features an open show kitchen, creating a calm yet engaging culinary atmosphere. Throughout the day, guests can help themselves at several tea and beverage stations.
