Development Strategy
Il Sereno Lago di Como was a game-changer in Como. It was the first entirely (exterior and interior) contemporary hotel in Como. Built from scratch under the strategic guidance of the Contreras Family, who assigned to Patricia Urquila the first hotel project, the hotel was conceived as a suite-only privileged and secluded refuge for UHNWI looking for full privacy, discretion and peace. The hotel was acclaimed with several awards since its opening back in 2016 (i.e. CNT, T+L, Michelin). In keeping with its initial positioning, in 2021 owners added 10 new suites to the inventory (from 30 to 40 keys), including a Signature Penthouse, which was the first entirely shoppable in Europe. In July 2025, the hotel launched the first Listening Suite in a luxury hotel in the world, dedicated to analog music lovers, and in the next years is planning to redesign its food and beverage outlets in the effort to strengthen the warm homy feeling, which is one of its “trademarks” since the opening.

History & Story
Designed by award‑winning architect Patricia Urquiola, Il Sereno Lago di Como combines surrounding nature with 40 large and comfortable suites, all offering breath-taking lake views. Replacing neoclassical tropes with sustainable wood, stone, and bronze, il Sereno revolutionized Como’s hospitality. The hotel combines vertical gardens (by Patrick Blanc) and modern architecture providing a seamless blend between nature and contemporary design.

The designer remains Patricia Urquiola: in 2021 new wing with additional 10 suites (from 30 to 40). In July 2025 brand new Darsena Listening Suite. 2026-2027 planning to redesign food and beverage outlets.

The hotel arises in Torno, allowing guest to walk-around, visit this picturesque village, have a meal outside, avoiding to always take a car or a boat to explore the destination. Located just at 10-minute drive from Como city, and 45 minutes from Malpensa Airport, the hotel offers the opportunity to enjoy the most romantic “sunset” of the Lake.
