History & Story
The Owners, Kimmo and Taru, were high school sweethearts during the 80s and reunited after 23 years. With their own travels and experiences behind them, they wanted to share the rest of their adventures together. Their wedding was held with the magical Finnish winter as a backdrop – an unforgettable experience for guests who travelled from all over the world.
From their dream of creating a permanent home in Finland, Kotona Manor was born. An architecturally exceptional modern sanctuary built within the tranquil surrounds of Finnish nature. The discrete hideaway. The discreet hideaway, where guests immediately feel at home.

Location
Finnish Lakeland is the largest lake area in Europe with some of the cleanest lakes in the world, 55 000 in total. There is a small canal between Kotona and the wider lake area, which makes the property even more discreet. In addition, we have a private road which ensures that only our guests have access to the area. Kotona Manor is located on an 18-hectare plot directly accessible by helicopter, boat, jet ski and car.
Our own 600 m shoreline offers us the best opportunities to experience the lakes during each season. Our location has all the necessary modern facilities but is also remote enough to avoid light pollution and the hassle of rush and noise.

All programs, activities and experiences are carefully chosen by our professional team, who are keenly aware of the best options for each season because this is our home. Our children might travel to school on cross-country skis or even an SUP-board. We are keenly attuned to the rhythms of nature, foraging mushrooms when they’re ready and savoring fresh lake fish dropped off by thoughtful neighbours. Guests are invited to explore our private paths and routes nearby—whether with huskies, snowshoes, cross-country skis, kick sleds, or hiking boots. On our property you can get safely lost and found.
Fun Facts
The name « Kotona » means « at home » in Finnish, which is fitting as the owners’ concept is based on their passion for sharing their home and the Finnish « way of life » with their guests.

All of our rooms are luxurious, suite-level spaces with a lake view and details carefully curated by world-class interior designers. Each manor room spans an expansive 49 m², with a keen focus on audio-visual concepts and cutting-edge room amenities, infused with luxurious elements. Embracing the essence of nature, we’ve incorporated abundant local wood into our room designs, fostering a seamless connection with the surrounding environment. Huge lake-facing windows give you a spectacular view of Finnish Lakeland nature. Our round main building represents the circle of life as well as the cycle of the year, which is at the core of our concept. At the same time, it offers our guests a natural viewpoint to nature, wherever you are on the property.
Architectural plans have been drafted by the internationally awarded, Helsinki-based JKMM. With their creativity, design and unique approach and our owners’ vision, this beautiful property comes alive. The Manor’s interior spans a spacious 1030m² catering to an exclusive clientele while maintaining an intimate ambiance tailored to a select few guests.

We offer full-board services (beverages excluded). In collaboration with Michelin-awarded chefs, we have developed a delicious clean food concept showcasing our lakes and forests. An exhilarating flavor journey that follows the seasons and harvests. Our products are local, and the recipes are from around the world. At Kotona, the journey to our dinner table is made together. Guests are invited to join us on excursions, and the fresh catch is brought straight to the table. lake – fire – plate fishing, foraging and meat smoking. Breakfast is garnished with freshly picked seasonal berries, and the soup is made from delicate chanterelles discovered in the forest.
Restaurant full capacity is 46 pax and it is divided into different atmospheric sections.

Our beverage selection includes beers, berry wines, gins and whiskeys from local producers. We have also searched the world for a high-quality selection of wines for our wine cellar, which are the most natural accompaniment to our Lakeland treasures. Our bars and lounges are located in different spaces in the main building, in our living room and in our orangerie. In the summer season our outdoor terrace will be the perfect place to enjoy a glass of wine.

Our main building surrounded by nature and the natural space in the middle of the main building (inner courtyard of 40m2) offers us spectacular possibilities for a range of different events. We can also take groups by boat to a remote island or host a special event with food and entertainment in the middle of the serene lake. Our restaurant has a capacity of 46 pax.
