La Maison d’Estournel
History & Story
La Maison d’Estournel is more than a luxury retreat; it embodies a legacy of passion and exceptional winemaking. Founded by Louis-Gaspard d’Estournel in 1791, he transformed the Cos d’Estournel estate from 14 to 45 hectares, believing in its extraordinary terroir. As a pioneer in international wine distribution, he expanded the reach of his wines to distant markets in India, China, and Africa, solidifying the estate’s global reputation. Louis-Gaspard’s dedication led him to move to Château de Pomys to fully focus on his winemaking. Today, La Maison d’Estournel remains true to its legacy, offering 14 elegantly appointed rooms and suites, spread across two floors around a graceful stone and wrought-iron staircase. These rooms are divided into different categories, each featuring antique-style oak parquet, natural materials such as raw linen and velvet, with subtle nods to the world of winemaking. Under Michel Reybier’s leadership, the estate preserves and enhances the vision of Louis-Gaspard d’Estournel, merging historical charm with modern luxury. It continues to stand as a symbol of exceptional craftsmanship and timeless elegance.

• 4 PAGODE ROOMS:
21-25 m² & 2 Guests
View: Park
Most rooms face west, overlooking the grand platane tree at the entrance. Some offer views of the flowered rooftops and wisteria climbing over centuries-old stone. The dark oak parquet and white walls create a serene atmosphere, balanced by subtle colors and refined fabrics. Delicate floral-embroidered curtains match cushions featuring the iconic elephant motif, a nod to Cos d’Estournel. Each room boasts a spacious shower area, often bathed in natural light through charming outdoor openings.
• 5 COS ROOMS:
20-26 m² & 2 Guests
View: Vineyards
Facing the morning sun, some rooms offer a privileged view of the park’s towers or, on clear days, the iconic pagodas of Cos d’Estournel. The ceiling cornices recall the bourgeois homes of former vineyard owners, and the showers are inspired by oak barrels used in the cellars. Velvet-upholstered headboards ensure comfort while allowing plenty of natural light. The color palette green, red, and white reflects the vineyard and wine, bringing the freshness of the garden indoors.
• TERRACE COS ROOM:
20-26 m² & 2 Guests
View: Vineyards
This room with its private terrace overlooking the grounds and vineyards is a concentration of the spirit inherent to the location: a love of nature and Medoc culture; the simple, timeless happiness of a gentle green countryside; the comfort of a perfectly styled, cozy cocoon. The beautiful terrace offers an unobstructed view of the pastoral landscape that unfolds on the horizon, right up to the Gironde estuary hidden in the distance, and even more fairytale-like in the morning, cup of coffee in hand, when the first rays of the sun light up the magic. This unique room on the first floor of the house features remarkable volumes with magnificently high ceilings, further increasing the feeling of space.
• ESTOURNEL ROOM:
31 m² & 2 Guests
View: Vineyards
The beauty of the grounds and the vines can be seen in all its authenticity from this spacious second floor room. The purity of the walls, punctuated by touches of burgundy and deep blue, the solid oak parquet flooring, the shimmering stylized floral embroideries adorning the curtains…Everything contributes to create the ideal setting with two wide openings to admire the green, unspoiled nature of the Médoc region. The bathtub at the foot of the bed view with the shower area nestling in a curved area inspired by the oak barrels used in the cellars, or when a bathroom mingles an intimate feel with vintage charm…
• TERRACE ESTOURNEL ROOM:
26 m² & 2 Guests
View: Vineyards
The balcony lends a particularly charming touch to this extremely spacious room on the first floor. Right from the entrance, the deep colors of the headboard, velvet-covered seats and lamp echo the stylized and embroidered floral motifs of the curtains to create an ideal setting for Nature’s verdant, ever-changing tableau.
The bathroom is sheltered in a rounded area, replicating the curve of a cellar barrel, while the bathtub takes its place at the foot of the bed. Outside, the same serenity pervades you as you admire the beauty of the landscape in a spirit of total simplicity and authenticity reflecting that of the entire Maison.
SUITES:
• JUNIOR SUITE:
31 m² & 2 Guests
View: Vineyards
This suite offers two windows from which to admire the grounds and the vineyards stretching as far as the eye can see, from the second floor and even from the bed. The freestanding tub enables guests to make the most of the scenery while bathing. It backs on to the beautifully rounded shower unit, adorned with intense blue tiling.
These curving shower areas were crafted onsite, using ageold artisanal techniques. Perfect for reading or enjoying a relaxing glass of wine, two deep green velvet armchairs strike a pleasing contrast with the multicolored embroidered curtains and the classic white timber-paneled walls.
• TERRACE JUNIOR SUITE:
29 m² & 2 Guests
View: Vineyards
The first floor is the perfect place to play the owner of the estate, admiring the vineyards and even the pagodas of Cos d’Estournel from the charming colonnaded balcony. But Louis-Gaspard d’Estournel never had the privilege of choosing between a freestanding bathtub or a spacious shower area inspired by oak barrels, with its delicately rounded shape accentuated by a dainty mosaic motif. A planked timber floor, a sweeping headboard shape inspired by those of antique.
French beds, a hand-woven, peach-colored wool rug, curtains embroidered with a playful multicoloured pattern… The softly matching colors are complemented by splendid garden views that can be enjoyed equally from the bed, the armchair or the bath. Doors onto the terrace provide direct access to the outdoors for a glass of wine before dinner.
