If being welcomed like family is part of the very DNA of Les Chalets du Mont d’Arbois, it’s because the hotel is much more than just a prestigious mountain retreat. Its history, closely linked to that of Megève, is first and foremost that of a family in love with their region, and at the origin of the centenary, intact personality of the most emblematic resort in Haute-Savoie.
A destiny that began in 1920, when Noémie de Rothschild entrusted her Swiss ski instructor with the task of finding the ideal location to build the first chic resort on this side of the border. She was captivated by the peaceful, rolling beauty of the deserted Mont d’Arbois plateau, above Megève. A farming village destined to become the meeting place for high society in search of French Alpine charm. While the Palace des Neiges, the first hotel on Mont d’Arbois, was inaugurated in 1921, and the very first tourists arrived by sleigh, Noémie de Rothschild pursued her desire to create a lifestyle unique to this high-altitude environment, identifiable at first glance thanks to its architecture. She entrusted Henri-Jacques Le Même, then a promising young architect, with the opportunity to initiate a landmark aesthetic charter with his “skier’s chalet.”
