HOTEL NAME
History & Story
Michael L. Cioffi is the founder of Monteverdi Tuscany, a boutique hotel and creative hub in the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Val d’Orcia. A lifelong advocate of the arts and humanities, Michael established Monteverdi to create an international destination where other creatives and lovers of the arts can find beauty in themselves and the world around them. He channels this passion through Monteverdi’s world-class culinary, wellness, and cultural programming that inspire peak human experiences to make life fuller, richer and more meaningful.
Michael founded Monteverdi in 2004 after he encountered the medieval village of Castiglioncello del Trinoro during his travels. Though the village was nearly abandoned, Michael was captivated by its natural beauty, and drawn to its mysterious allure and decided to revitalize it, building by building. He oversaw the years-long restoration process, which harmoniously joins modern design with natural reclaimed materials from the Val d’Orcia – a triumph of architecture and design that celebrates the village’s historic legacy while ambitiously looking ahead to the hotel’s future.
