History & Story
The story of Regent Porto Montenegro begins with Canadian entrepreneur Peter Munk, who in the later 2000s saw a unique opportunity in the Bay of Kotor, Montenegro. Recognizing the area’s stunning natural beauty and strategic location on the Adriatic coast, Mr. Munk invested in the redevelopment of the former Austro-Hungarian and Yugoslavian naval base in Tivat. His vision was bold: to transform the historic site into a world-class luxury marina and lifestyle destination that would attract international travelers and superyachts.
This investment led to the creation of Porto Montenegro, a pioneering waterfront development that combined maritime heritage with modern luxury. Over time, the marina grew into a prestigious hub, earning global recognition as the world’s first Platinum-rated marina and becoming a magnet for the superyacht community. The development included a vibrant marina village with upscale boutiques, fine dining, and cultural venues, creating a unique blend of luxury living and Mediterranean charm.
As Porto Montenegro expanded, the need for a flagship hotel that matched the destination’s ambition became clear. This led to the opening of Regent Porto Montenegro hotel in 2014, a 5-star luxury resort managed by IHG Hotels & Resorts under the Regent Hotels & Resorts brand. The hotel was designed to offer an exceptional guest experience, combining sophisticated design with a warm, personalized service that reflects Montenegro’s hospitality traditions.
