History & Story
SO/ Sotogrande is a brand-new lifestyle resort that newly opened on August 1st, 2021 in the exclusive destination of Sotogrande which is today is one of the most luxurious urbanisations in Europe. Since acquiring four fincas and merging them to create the largest private estate in Spain in 1962, Sotogrande has been developing this spectacular stretch of the Costa del Sol into an exclusive resort. Joseph McMicking, a Filipino-American businessman, impressed by the exclusive Forbes Park housing development in Manila, decided to design a similar community and set out to find the
ideal location. Unspoilt beaches, pristine nature and access to an airport were important, and this area of southern Spain was the perfect choice.
Fast-forward to 2023, Sotogrande offers plenty of ways to be discovered and enjoyed: Promenade through its elite marina filled with countless yachts. Play a round of golf on one of the world-class courses in the area, including Europe’s number 1 course: Valderrama. Enjoy long walks along Sotogrande Beach with marvellous views of Gibraltar. Fun Facts
The hotel is built on the foundation of an Andalusian cortijo (farmhouse) named Cortijo Santa Maria de la Higuera (farm-house Santa Maria fig tree) and you can find all over the resort fig trees, architectural arches. The resort has been selected as the home for swallows when they nest in Europe.
