We acquired a derelict farmhouse on the Castelfafli Estate and proceeded to design and build it with the help of the architect Alessandra Cipriani in Florence. My wife Susan and I had an input in the design and followed the building of the house closely. My brother Roberto, who is also an architect, provided invaluable input throughout.

Description
I was born to Italian parents in Cape Town – my mother hails from Salsomaggiore and my father from Piombino in Tuscany. I have always been proud of my Italian roots and aspired to purchase a property in Italy. The search for an appropriate property took several years and we explored various options. However, we were immediately smitten when we visited Castelfalfi, a breathtakingly beautiful estate, which we felt had limitless potential. It’s an estate of contrasts anchored by a timeless medieval village with its majestic castle, which was once a summer retreat of the Medici family. It’s an integrated estate which combines agricultural production, mainly of superb wine and olive oil; a high-end hotel; and a worldclass golf course. All the while as private homeowners we are able to take advantage of all this but at the same time enjoy the privacy of our own home which overlooks the estate.
Main Strengths
Located in the so-called “golden triangle” the villa is perfectly positioned to explore Florence, Siena and Pisa, all within 1hr drive. Closer towns like San Gimignano and Voterra can be reached in 30 minutes, making it a perfect base to visit the region.
The house is owned by a large family with little children and it is perfect to accommodate multi-gen groups. The living areas and kitchen are spacious and bright and have a Provençal style. The annexe is a self-contained apartment with a living area and kitchen. The villa is immersed in the Castelfalfi Golf Course (currently under full renovation) and it is just a few minutes away from the medieval borgo with boutiques and restaurants, perfect for those who don’t want to drive too far to enjoy a typical Tuscan meal. There are also plenty of biking and hiking trails, an adventure park for children from age 5 and above, and horse riding facilities nearby.

This last year we produced our very own olive oil and also marmalade from the trees in our garden.

Children are always welcome and the villa can provide high chairs and baby cots. Within a 10min drive from the villa is Castelfalfi Adventure Park suitable from 5yrs old.
