History and Story
A story 30 years in the making, the Eastern & Oriental Express has been narrating adventures since its inaugural journey from Bangkok to Singapore in 1993. After American businessman James B Sherwood purchased the luxury train carriages in Japan, these were remodelled in Singapore with elegance, echoing the spirit of ancient Indochina.
Today, the sister of the celebrated Venice Simplon-Orient Express, A Belmond Train, takes you on a grand journey in Southeast Asia to capture the heart of Malaysia.

Panelled walls and teak floors evoke a bygone era, giving the Observation Car a certain spirit of grandeur.
After a delicious dinner, retreat to the piano bar for a refreshing nightcap while delicate notes of the piano float through the air. Our musical curator is on hand to entertain with nostalgic melodies.
